Johannes Cornelisz Verspronck (1600/03-1662) was a Dutch Golden Age portrait painter from Haarlem. He was born in Haarlem as the son of the painter Cornelis Engelsz from Gouda, who taught him to paint. In 1632, he became a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke and started a successful career as a portraitist of mostly Catholic sitters in Haarlem. Verspronck produced about 100 known paintings and is celebrated for his detailed realism and atmospheric effects, capturing the essence of Dutch Golden Age life and character. His career was marked by his ability to depict the elegance and charm of his subjects, making him a notable figure in 17th-century Dutch painting. He died in 1662 in Haarlem.
