Hendrik van Steenwijk II, born around 1580 in Antwerp and died in 1649 in Leiden, was a Flemish Baroque painter known for his architectural interiors and biblical scenes. Van Steenwijk was the son of Hendrik van Steenwijk I, a pioneer of the interior genre. He moved to Frankfurt am Main in 1585 and later settled in London, where he painted backgrounds for prominent artists like Anthony van Dyck. His works are celebrated for their detailed and accurate depictions of interiors, often with a dramatic use of light and shadow. Van Steenwijk's career was marked by his ability to capture the grandeur of architectural spaces, making him a notable figure in Baroque painting.
