Joshua Johnson

Joshua Johns[t]on (c. 1763 – c. 1824) was an American painter from the Baltimore, Maryland area of African and European ancestry. Johnson is known for his portrait paintings of prominent Maryland residents and their children. He was the "earliest documented professional African-American painter".
